In collaboration with a major manufacturer of carbon composite parts in the aerospace industry, Middleton has developed dedicated non destructive inspection systems based on hyperspectral imaging for the detection and measurement of resin pockets. By integrating hyperspectral optics with a custom robotic mechanism, The Near Infrared Resin Pocket Measurement System can access areas with resin pooling in specific composite parts which cannot be measured by any other non destructive testing methods. This has allowed the client to both further improve the safety and quality of their product while also reducing waste of material and time. In addition, this relationship has yielded valuable intellectual property/patents for our client.
